You can copy a Treetop Village with Phantasmal Image, if the Treetop Village is currently a creature.
However, the result will NOT be a 3/3 with Trample.
Instead, you will get a completely ordinary, unanimated, tapped, Treetop Village. That is, it's a land that taps for green mana, has an ability that turns it into a 3/3 with Trample, and dies if it's targeted. You can activate its ability for 1G, and then, until end of turn, it will be a 3/3 Ape Illusion with Trample that dies if it's targeted.

Your correct in everything except that it will not be an illusion when animated. The effect that makes it an illusion is part of the copy effect. Since that is applied in layer 1 when the treetop village is not a creature it will never have the illusion type.

But you still have to sacrifice it when it get targeted right, whether animated or not?

I am convinced that WotC is "dumbing" the game because of all the stupid posts they come across on MTG-related forums

Correct, even though the sacrifice ability states that you sacrifice this creature, what it in essence means is to sacrifice this permanent (it's just normally a creature). Being a creature isn't nessessary for it to be sacrificed.

OK, you're right. I think this was updated since I last checked (rule 205.3d).

Treetop Village
Can I copy a treetop village with a phantasmal image ? Does it remain as a creature for the rest of the game ?
Thanks
