I control Phantasmal Image, copying Roc Egg. Phantasmal Image is targeted by Shock and is placed in the graveyard. Will I get a 3/3 Roc Token from the Phantasmal Image and why or why not? Thanks.
W may only be paid with white mana. U may only be paid with blue mana. B may only be paid with black mana. R may only be paid with red mana. G may only be paid with green mana. C may only be paid with colorless mana. 1 may be paid with white, blue, black, red, green, or clolorless mana.
The Phantasmal Roc Egg will be put from the 'field into the GY, so I see no reason why you wouldnt end up with a 3/3 bird out of the deal
The issue is if one of those goofy rules comes into effect where if a card changes zones it forgets its old existence, etc. I figured you would get the Roc Token, I just wanted to be sure before I end up punting a game on MTGO over this.

The card in the graveyard doesn't remember what it was on the battlefield, but that doesn't matter. "Dies" triggers are a special case of leave-the-battlefield triggers, which trigger based on the appearance of objects before the event rather than after. Before the Phantasmal Egg died, it was a Roc Egg, so the ability triggers based on it being a Roc Egg and you get a bird.

This is what I thought. Thanks.
