I am in the middle of a Kitchen Table match, so there is really no rush but here is the Scenario. I play Gideon Jura and turn him into a creature and swing for 6. My opponent says I can't since he just entered the battlefield he is still affected by Summoning Sickness since, as a creature he hasn't seen a complete upkeep on my battlefield. Is he right? Or can I swing for 6 the turn he enters play.
Did you turn Gideon into a creature the turn you played him? Are creatures affected by summoning sickness the turn you play them? Is Gideon a creature?
Your opponent is right on this one. All permanents have summoning sickness, but only creature permanents get affected by it.
Even tho he's not a creature when he enters the battlefield, he still has 'summoning sickness'. Although it doesn't affect any other thing about him, it does affect his 0 ability (turning him into a creature), as he has not been in your control since before the beginning of your turn.
