lets say i cast threads of disloyalty and get to control my opp's morphed down vesuvan shapeshifter, then i choose to morph it up, i would instantly lose control of it, correct?
Not if you choose to copy a creature with converted mana cost 2 or less. The "as it is turned face up" part of Vesuvan Shapeshifter's copy ability is a replacement effect that modifies what happens as the Shapeshifter is turned faced up; provided that you choose to copy something, the Shapeshifter is never actually its own 0/0, 5-CMC self. It's a 2/2 with no CMC, and then it is what you chose to copy in every way including mana cost (+ the turn face-down at upkeep ability).
I'm a former judge (lapsed), who keeps up to date on rules and policy. Keep in mind that judges' answers aren't necessarily more valid than those of people who aren't judges; what matters is we can quote the rules to back up our answers. When in doubt, ask for such quotes.
