My brother attacked with his creature and I blocked with mine. Just a reminder, double strike says that the equipped creature's first attack is an attack with first strike. He thinks that his creature, which is 4/4 with double strike now, deals its damage first to mine which doesn't kill it, but I don't get a chance to attack back because its first strike. Then we both attack at the same time and kill each other because he's dealt his 4 damage twice (my creature has 7 toughness) and my creature kills him too because of its 4 power and deathtouch. So I basically don't get to attack back when defending from his first attack.
I think that when he attacks me, his first strike deals its 4 damage, which doesn't kill me. Then I get to fight back, dealing my 4 damage and killing him, making him not even have a chance to use his second attack.
Who is right? (And make sure to tell my brother how stupid he is)
first, sangrite surge will NEVER be equipped to a creature, it's a sorcery.
second, double strike allows a creature to deal damage in the first strike combat damage step and the normal combat damage step. your creature doesn't have first strike, so it won't hit in the first strike damage step.
so his creature will deal 4 damage to yours first in the first strike damage, and then in the normal combat damage step, BOTH creatures deal damage. so his deals your another 4 and your's hits his for 3 with deathtouch. since your creature is a 4/7 with 8 damage and his is a 4/4 that was hit with deathtouch, they BOTH die.
So I basically don't get to attack back when defending from his first attack.

You think wrong. After the first-strike damage, both creatures deal damage to each other at the same time, as normal.
My brother has a 1/1 creature equipped with sangrite surge that gives it +3/+3 and double strike.
Sanctum Plowbeast is a 3/6 Defender equipped with Gorgon Flail which gives him +1/+1 with deathtouch.

your brother is correct.
First strike: Creature A (1/1 with sangrite surge) deals 4 damage to Creature B (Plowbeast), Plowbeast does not deal damage.
Second Strike: Creatures A and B deal 4 damage to each other.
Conclusion: Creatures A and B go to the graveyard.

I like 4/4s for 7.
