Ok say my oppoent has a Worldgorger Dragon and is useing something like Animate Dead (for any of you type 1 players out there you know this combo it is dragon) to get infinate mana. Now lets say that some how I have removed his win condition from the game or at least his ability to target another legal target with the animate spell. Now I have been told before that this is an infinate loop and the game is a draw by some people. But also been told that the rules have been changed so that there is no longer the ability to have an infinate loop in the game. So what I am wondering is if this happened in a best out of 3 timed match at a tournement what do you do. Does they game just end end a draw and you start a whole new game over. Or is your oppoent forced to pick a number and then that is the number of times the spell will resolve. And if this is the case what happens to the dragon after all is said and done. Thanks for any help you can give.
If there is no way for your opponent to target another creauture then the game ends in a draw because it is a loop with no optional choices. The rule your referring to where they pick a number of times to complete an action is when there is an optional choice inside the infinite combo.
Whenever a loop consists solely of mandatory actions, the game ends in a draw. In the case of Worldgorger Dragon/Animate Dead, the game will only end in a draw if there are no other creature cards in any graveyard.
If there's even one other creature card in any graveyard that's legally targetable by Animate Dead, then the loop consists of an optional action, in which case you choose a number of iterations for the loop and then it ends.
