say i have a blinking spirit equipped with a loxodon warhammer, I swing, he blocks with watchwolf. I put damage on stack, and then send blinking back to my hand. Do I gain life?
I can't tell because of the wording of the hammer. On umezawa's jitte it says "whenever equipped creature deals combat damage", so taking a jitted blinking out means its no longer equipped and therefore doesnt get jitte counters.
Warhammer meanwhile reads "equipped creature gets +3/0, trample, and has "whenever this creature deals damage you gain that much life". Which is similar but a little bit off which raises the question of whether I gain life or not.
I'm inclined to say no, but would like a confirmation.
Thou art correct. Warhammer grants the ability to the creature it's equipping. When you return Blinking Spirit to your hand, it's no longer in play to have that ability, and as such when damage is dealt there's no ability to trigger.
Does this also apply to creatures like Exalted Angel that have the "spirit link" ability inherently? I would guess yes if it's bounced before it triggers, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
