Sakashima the Impostor
:2mana::symu::symu:
Legendary Creature - Human Rogue
As Sakashima the Impostor comes into play, you may choose a creature in play. If you do, Sakashima comes into play as a copy of that creature, except its name is still Sakashima the Impostor, it's still legendary, and it gains ":2mana::symu::symu:: Return Sakashima the Impostor to its owner's hand at end of turn."
3/1
Can I use Sakashima to copy another Legendary creature like Kokusho, the Evening Star and have them both survive? My intuition tells me that you can, since Sakashima retains his own name, rather than Kokusho's.
Since Sakashima doesn't copy the card's name, what happens to abilities that reference the card by name? Would a Sakashima-copy of Bloodfire Colossus be able to be sacrificed to deal 6 damage to all creatures and players?
202.2. Text that refers to the object it’s on by name means just that particular object and not any other duplicates of it, regardless of any name changes caused by game effects.
This means that whenever an ability says "~foo does *something*.", it is always referring to the source of the ability. Name changes (such as when something copies something else) will be taken into account, so you don't get weird wordings of abilities (like the Sakshima copying a Bloodfire Colossus, or Quicksilver Elemental copying the ability of a Arc-Slogger).
I realize it's probably not quite as explicitly worded as it could be (even looking at it, it'd be hard to tell that right away), but that's basically how it is governed.
