So, an interaction happened with the new strixhaven cards in a game today and I have no idea how it works. The opponent casts a creature that enter the battlefield with a number of +1/+1 counters, such as Inferno Project. In response, I cast a Bold Plagiarist, so it sees the first creature entering the battlefield. Does the Plagiarist get the counters the other creature enters the battlefield with?
In general, if the creature enters with counters under your opponent's control, then yes it does. For purposes of Bold Plagiarist, "an opponent puts one or more counters on a creature they control" if—
that player "put(s) counters on that [creature] while it's on the battlefield", regardless of what verb is used to refer to that action (whether "put", "move" [C.R. 122.5], "double" [C.R. 701.9e], "give", or some other verb) (C.R. 122.6), or
a creature is "given counters as it enters the battlefield" under that player's control (e.g., "enters the battlefield with ... counters"), unless the effect states another player gives those counters (C.R. 122.6, 122.6a).
Note that Bold Plagiarist's triggered ability applies to counters of any kind, not just +1/+1 counters.
thanks!
