So I was playing a match against my younger brother who has played longer than me and I'm fairly new to magic and I had 1 creature with amass and a zombie army token on the field and I block with both and what comes first the counter effect to the token or both die but still create another zombie army token,
But my younger brother says it's ability is negated.
Would lover to hear the proper way to play with amass.
Also I blocked with the amass creature first.
So, you block with both creatures. Assuming both are dealt lethal damage, they both die at the same time. The, the Herald's trigger goes onto the stack to either put a counter on an Army (if you have one) or create a new Army with a counter. This doesn't happen until the trigger resolves. Since your Army is long gone by that point, you get a new Army with a counter on it.
Also, you don't block with anything "first". You declare your blockers at the same time. At best, your *opponent* decides the Damage Assignment Order of the blockers but the only thing that potentially changes is which one dies (if there is not enough damage to kill both). They are still both dealt damage at the same time and will die at the same time.

Herald of the Dreadhorde - This is the card I am going to assume you had
