I'm looking into making a Yidris EDH deck, and I have some question about his cascade ability, since he can give cascade to 'any spell':
- If you have a split card such as far // away, I know that casting it for his fuse cost, the CMC for the cascade is 5.
Now, if I cast just 'far' what would be the CMC for cascade? I remember the old rule stating that only the 'half' cast exists on the stack, however, since during my hiatus, the rule concerning the CMC of split card has changed (can't easily cascade into beck // call anymore...) I don't know anymore
- My second question is: what about evoke cost? (Note: I don't mean cascading into evoke), that is: if I cast mulldrifter for its evoke cost, what would be the CMC for the cascade? 3 or 5?
- I guess similar question for overload cost?
1. If you cast the Far half of Far//Away, the CMC of the spell on the stack is 2.
2. Mulldrifter’s CMC is 5, even when cast for its evoke cost. Likewise, an overloaded spell’s CMC is the same as it would be if you cast the card for its normal cost. A card’s converted mana cost is determined by the mana symbols in the card’s upper right-hand corner, even if that’s not the amount of mana you’re actually paying to cast it for whatever reason.
So split cards CMC on the stack hasn't change, it's the same "old" rule, it's only in your graveyard, hand and deck that the CMC has been updated, correct?
