When I moved country and stopped playing, the rule changed that combat damage no longer used stack? I remember not being able to block with my Yavimaya elder, and do damage and sacrifice him.
This still the case?
Did anything else groundbreaking change since then?
Using card tags is mandatory in the Magic Rulings forum. Please check your private messages to learn how to use them. I've added them for this post.
edit: Not sure where to post, so I am adding this to my post. 9 years is a long time, I kinda feel lost going through all these sets. so many new things happened, so now you have war of the spark for example, but another set is coming out that isn't in the same block? also sets came out with old cards, just for vintage? how do people buy these? the prices I find are astronomical.
Also, please avoid asking non-rules questions in this forum, which is reserved for rules Q&A. The Magic General forum would be a better place for this type of question. Thanks! -MadMage
the block structure is mostly over.
consecutive sets tend to be mechanically tied somehow, but the stories are not fixed to 3 sets in a block anymore, WotC basically does anything they like right now with the story.
war of the spark follows up the story from Ravnica and ends it.
Modern Horizons is a non standard legal set which is meant to add new cards to the modern pool without adding anything to standard.
About your rules question....
combat damage does not use the stack anymore, it's resolved right away as a single object.
so, you can't stack the damage and sacrifice the dude. whenever you would "stack the damage" it will actually be dealt right away.
rules come and go, I don't think anything with that importance changed in the last 9 years, but you'll have some catching up to do.
Well, the legend rule has changed again. Now, each player can have a legendary permanent with the same name under their control. Only if one player controls more than one legendary permanent with the same name does the legend rule kick in. And now that player can choose one of those to keep, then the rest is put into their owners' graveyards. The planeswalker uniquness rule has been merged with the legend rule. All planeswalkers have been errataed to be legendary and are thus subjected to the legend rule. Now planeswalkers also only care about the exact same name, and not subtype.
This still the case?
