So I have a very special friend who believes concerted effort and/or odric, lunarch marshal gives his creatures all the abilities from the list on the cards as long as one of his creatures has flying or first strike and nothing else. Can someone explain it here for him how these two cards work cause I cant.
Card tags fixed. Those on Odric didn't work because you forgot the comma, and the card name must be exact. I've also removed extra spaces within the tags, which can mess up with them. Just a couple details to remember; thank you very much for using the tags in your first post! -MadMage
Concerted Effort's ability generally means, in part: "...all creatures you control gain flying until end of turn if a creature you control has flying. All creatures you control gain fear until end of turn if a creature you control has fear. All creatures you control gain first strike until end of turn if a creature you control has first strike..." and so on.
Similarly, Odric's ability generally means, in part: "...creatures you control gain first strike until end of turn if a creature you control has first strike. Creatures you control gain flying until end of turn if a creature you control has flying. Creatures you control gain deathtouch until end of turn if a creature you control has deathtouch..." and so on.
Thus, when Concerted Effort's or Odric's ability resolves, check whether creatures "you control" have one or more of the abilities listed on that triggered ability. If so, all creatures "you control" will gain each of the abilities among them that any one or more of those creatures has this way until end of turn. See also this thread.
For example, assume "you control" a creature with flying and first strike, another creature with trample, a third creature with protection from red, a fourth creature with deathtouch, and no other creatures. When Concerted Effort's ability resolves, all four creatures will gain flying, first strike, trample, and protection from red until end of turn, since those abilities are listed on Concerted Effort's ability. On the other hand, they won't gain deathtouch until end of turn this way because deathtouch is not listed on Concerted Effort's ability.
EDIT (Dec. 25, 2019; Mar. 22, 2021): Clarification.
The card specific rulings for effort could also help, it clearly shows that creatures only gain abilities that is already around:
10/1/2005 For example, a player controls three creatures when Concerted Effort’s ability resolves: one creature with flying and protection from red, one with islandwalk and protection from green; and one with vigilance. All three creatures will have flying, islandwalk, vigilance, protection from red, and protection from green until the end of the turn.
