Hi, I have few questions. If I have Marchesa, the Black Rose as commander of the battlefield, how to resolve this situations:
A) I have some 1/1 creature (RAT for example) with one +1/+1 counter on the battlefield. Some opponent's source (only one source) instant spell for example places 2 -1/-1 counters on my RAT. Will my Rat go back to the battlefield thanks to Marchesa's ability? (even if -1 counters negates +1 counters etc.)
B) Same situation as before, but now opponent casts two inastant spells and every one of them places one - 1/-1 counter on my RAT. Is there any difference if there are now two opponent's sources in this situation?
When a creature dies the game looks at how it existed at the moment of death. In situation A it will be a 0/0 creature with one +1 counter and two -1 counters so anything looking for a counter of either type Marchesa, persist, undying etc will trigger. However if +1 and -1 counters exist on a creature at the same time then as a SBA one of each counter is removed so in situation B where it is two separate spells the first will resolve leaving a 1/1 with a +1 and a -1 counter which will then both be removed. When the second spell resolves it will be a 0/0 with only a minus counter and put into the GY.
