If I have a creature with Spy Kit and Assault Suit attached to it. I make the creaure an artifact after an opponent gains control of it. If I cast Splinter on it would the opponent search his library for all nonlegendary creatures due to the kit or would splinter only make him search for any cards with the exact name printed on the card?
201.2b If an object has more than one name, it has the same name as another object if there are one or more names that both objects have in common.
Since the creature equipped with Spy Kit has the name of every nonlegendary creature, if you manage to Splinter that creature, you'll search its controller's graveyard, hand, and library for every nonlegendary creature and exile them.
Note, that it is you doing the search. Any oversight on finding cards, accidentally or on purpose, is your mistake alone. And also note, that you are permitted to not find cards with specified criteria (like name) in hidden zones (hand, library), but that you have to find all the cards in public zones (graveyard).
Also note that the particular combo described in the OP doesn't work without something like Quicken because Splinter is a sorcery and Assault Suit's triggered ability is designed so that opponents only control the creature on their own turns.
