So a friend and I were arguing about the effects of Mind's Dilation, more specifically if it is removed. I cast it, a turn goes by and he casts his first spell, exiles the top card of his library and reveals Lightning Greaves. It's not a land card so i cast them and put them on my field. Either after it resolved or on his next turn he exiled/ destroyed mind's dilation. He says once it leaves play I lose control of his greaves but if I go by rule 611.2a, I can keep it since there is no statement on how long the effect lasts. Whose correct?
Mind's Dilation's controller keeps the Lightning Greaves. Card control is determined by the most recent timestamp, and such timestamps have to be created either when a permanent enters the battlefield under a player's control, in which case that player controls the permanent, or if an effect is applied to change a card's controller. You keep the equipment for one reason: Greaves is not under a Mind Control-style continuous effect. Its control has nothing to do with whether or not Dilation is on the battlefield because its control is owed to it entering the battlefield under your control. Not to mention, your opponent has no rules-based claim to it even though they own the card. Greaves did not enter under your opponent's control, so, as such, there is no timestamp for it being controlled by your opponent.
110.2. A permanent’s owner is the same as the owner of the card that represents it (unless it’s a token; see rule 110.5a). A permanent’s controller is, by default, the player under whose control it entered the battlefield. Every permanent has a controller.
