If I target Phantasmal Image with Proteus Staff ability, will the ability fizzle to reveal cards from top of library?

The Image will be gone before the Staff's abilty would get to resolve. So that ability no longer has any legal targets and is removed from the Stack when it tries to resolve. It does absolutely nothing, none of its effects happen.
