Your creature (Bruse Tarl) has double strike, lifelink and trample.
So in the First Strike damage step, you deal 3 damage to your opponent. You gain three life.
Then in the regular damage step, you deal another 3 damage to your opponent. You gain another three life.
Assuming Bruse Tarl continues to have double strike, lifelink, and trample as combat damage is assigned:
Since Bruse Tarl is blocked with no creatures blocking it, Bruse Tarl will assign all its combat damage (equal to its power) to the player or planeswalker it's attacking (C.R. 702.19c, 510.1a), and there will be two combat damage steps rather than one, and Bruse Tarl can assign combat damage in each one (C.R. 702.4b).
Thus, in normal cases, Bruse Tarl will thus assign and deal 6 combat damage (3 for each combat damage step) and make you gain a total of 6 life (C.R. 119.3f).
I attack with a Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder. Its ability triggers, giving it double strike and lifelink. My opponent blocks with a Myr Enforcer. I cast Ride Down, to kill the Myr Enforcer.
So with the double strike and trample...how much total damage is dealt to my opponent, and how much life do I gain?
Thank you!

Total damage = 6. Total life gained = 6.
Hope that helps.
