Opponent A steals my Razaketh, the Foulblooded with Act of Treason, and proceeds to attack Opponent B with same. The questions come up during combat, after damage is dealt.
Questions:
1) Who gains life? To me it seems pretty straightfoward that Opponent A gains the life from the Loxodon Warhammer.
2) However, what if the Razaketh was instead equippped with something that read "whenever equipped/enchanted creature deals damage, you gain that much life" (I'm having trouble thinking of such a card, but the concept is still something we're struggling with)Spirit Link. I would think that me, as the equipment's enchantment's controller, would gain the life.
3) Who gets the Sword of Feast and Famine triggers, assuming that the creature connects with Opponent B? I think I would get them and get to untap my lands because I am the controller of the sword, but Opponent A claimed that they get to untap the lands.
In general, gaining control of a creature doesn't change control of an Equipment or Aura attached to that creature; an Equipment's or Aura's "controller is separate from [that creature's] controller ...; the two need not be the same" (C.R. 301.5d, 303.4e). However, any "you" on an Equipment's or Aura's triggered abilities means whoever controlled that permanent when they triggered, no matter who controlled the equipped or enchanted creature at that time (C.R. 109.5).
Loxodon Warhammer gives the equipped creature two abilities, namely, trample and lifelink; thus, due to lifelink, if that creature deals damage, that damage makes its controller gain that much life (C.R. 120.3f). On the other hand, Sword of Feast and Famine and Spirit Link have abilities that trigger whenever certain damage is dealt; any "you" on those abilities refers to whoever controlled Sword of Feast and Famine or Spirit Link when they triggered (C.R. 109.5).
EDIT (Feb. 26): Correctness edit.
EDIT (Oct. 31, 2019): Edited.
EDIT (Dec. 5, 2020): One rule was renumbered in the meantime.
1) Loxodon Warhammer grants lifelink, which has the exact meaning "Damage dealt by this object causes you to gain that much life." "You" is always an object's controller (or owner if it has none). So opponent A gains the life.
2) If instead of being equipped with the aforementioned, the creature were instead enchanted with Spirit Link of yours, you would gain the life for the reason you describe (i.e., Spirit Link has a triggered ability that says "you").
3) You control the triggered abilities because you still control Sword of Feast and Famine, same reason as the above. This is a triggered ability of the Equipment itself, not one granted to the creature it's on.
The main question to ask is "Does the ability belong to the creature or the equipment?" So, Loxodon Warhammer grants lifelink to the creature, meaning whenever it deals damage, it's controller gains that much life. And Opponent A does control the creature, so they get the life. But Sword of Feast and Famine does not grant an ability to the creature; it has its own ability that simply triggers when the creature deals damage. And whenever a card says "you," it refers to that card's controller. The sword may be on a creature controlled by Opponent A, but you are the controller of the sword, so you get the untap. Same for Spirit Link.
I have out a Razaketh, the Foulblooded in play under my control, and he is equipped with a Loxodon Warhammer and a Sword of Feast and Famine.
