Came up in fnm, from my understanding exert is an activated ability but the damage portion is attached to a trigger ability, so if I attacked with Glorybringer, would I have to pay 2 extra mana to burn down my opponents Kopala, Warden of Waves or nah? Please explain thoroughly why or why not, pls and ty,:3
Ugin is going to get really bad once all the fatties are colourless. I sold all mine. Sell sell sell!
He's going to be absolutely rotten. Hangarback walker has already nerfed him quite significantly. I reckon he'll be $3 junk within 2 months of rotation
Glorybringer has no activated ability (none of them contain a colon or are keywords that do [C.R. 602.1]), and when you exert Glorybringer as it attacks, its associated triggered ability will trigger and go on the stack without you having to pay any costs (C.R. 603.2, 603.3; see also C.R. 603.12). Note in particular that triggered abilities are not activated (C.R. 602.1c; see also C.R. 603.2a), so Kopala's second ability doesn't affect triggered abilities.
701.37a To exert a permanent, you choose to have it not untap during your next untap step.
701.37b A permanent can be exerted even if it’s not tapped or has already been exerted in a turn. If you exert a permanent more than once before your next untap step, each effect causing it not to untap expires during the same untap step.
701.37c An object that isn’t on the battlefield can’t be exerted.
701.37d “You may exert [this creature] as it attacks” is an optional cost to attack (see rule 508.1g). Some objects with this static ability have a triggered ability that triggers “when you do” printed in the same paragraph. These abilities are linked. (See rule 607.2g.)
An optional cost to attack, not an activated ability.
An optional cost to attack, not an activated ability.
Glorybringer has a TRIGGERED ability, so it is not affected by Kopala's tax.
