Ok so im looking at building a deck around heartless summoning, multiple myr retrievers and in my serach for an artifact tutor i see Mishra, Artificer Prodigy. i know from prior experience that if i cast an artifact and it gets countered you can search your graveyard and find the countered copy of the spell depending on how you resolve abilities irrc, so my question is if i have out heartless summoning cast really any artifact creature with 1 toughness can i chose to search my graveyard and find the dead creature? for the sake of my own sanity as well as anyone i torture with this deck should i make it what would be the best way to make it simple as to what is happening as well, should this be a working combo
quick edit by using the classic RTFC i can see its not infinite as i initially thought but actually creates a new issue simply if i cast the retriever it dies and i can grab it from the graveyard with the original trigger on the stack can i use the first instance to grab it after it dies the second time being a new entity which would potentially be infinte?

No, just another one with the same name (if it's already there).
If this is your first Myr Retriever:
Your main phase begins.
You get priority and cast Myr Retriever. You pay its cost of 0. This triggers the ability of Mishra, Artificer Prodigy.
You would get priority, but there is a triggered ability to put on the stack. You put "Whenever you cast an artifact spell, you may search your graveyard, hand, and/or library for a card with the same name as that spell and put it onto the battlefield. If you search your library this way, shuffle it." on the stack.
You get priority and pass.
Opponent gets priority and passes.
The top object on the stack (the ability put there in step 3) resolves. If you only search your graveyard, there isn't one there (yet).
You get priority and pass.
Opponent gets priority and passes. (If they countered your Myr Retriever at this point, it would be too late for the Mishra trigger to get it.)
The top object on the stack (the spell cast in step 2) resolves. You put Myr Retriever onto the battlefield.
You would get priority, but there is a state-based action to process. Myr Retriever has 0 toughness and goes to your graveyard. This triggers its ability.
You would get priority, but there is a triggered ability to put on the stack. You put "When Myr Retriever dies, return another target artifact card from your graveyard to your hand." on the stack. Either there was another artifact card in your graveyard already and you choose it as the target, or there wasn't and you remove this ability.

Why bother with mere rulings when so many answers can be found in the Rules?
OK, I have some Mishra, Artificer Prodigy questions. I've been reading the forums and looking at cards and am confused, mostly because I think that some rules, cards, and definitions have changed.
My first question is, what is the status of Artifact Lands? Old versions, like Seat of the Synod say they aren't spells, but that text seems to have been removed in updated versions like Seat of the Synod. So, does playing an artifact land now trigger Mishra's ability, or not?
Second, some people had deck builds in these forums that involved stealing opponents' artifacts and using them to trigger Mishra's effect, like Geth, Lord of the Vault. But is putting a card into play the same as playing? as Mishra requires?

Reminder text (such as "(Seat of the Synod isn't a spell.)") "has no game function" (C.R. 207.2, 207.2a). The fact that some printed versions of cards might not have certain reminder text doesn't change how those cards work. (EDIT [after comment 6 was posted]: A card's Oracle text is used to determine its wording [C.R. 108.1].) And a card that's a land and another card type can be played only as a land (C.R. 305.9).

Neither "playing a land" nor putting an object onto the battlefield is the same as casting a spell, so Mishra's ability won't trigger for either action (C.R. 108.1; compare C.R. 701.13, play, with C.R. 701.4, cast).

Mishra's Oracle wording now says "Whenever you cast an artifact spell." Casting a spell continues to, well, not be a land play.
"Put onto the battlefield" effects are also not casts. Casting an artifact spell means just that.
