I attack with a 4/4 creature. My opponent who is at 4 life lets the damage go through. He has darien, king of kjeldor and soul's attendant in play. He thinks as the damage resolves he gets to put the tokens in play gaining the life from his creatures, i said as the damage resolves he dies before those effects happen. Who's right?
If the attacking creature deals enough damage to the defending player to bring his or her life total to 0 or less, Darien's ability will trigger (C.R. 603.2), but that player will lose the game due to state-based actions (C.R. 704.5a) before that ability can even go on the stack (C.R. 116.5; C.R. 510.3, especially C.R. 510.3a, applies here after combat damage is dealt), let alone get to resolve. See also this thread.
As a result of being dealt damage, your opponent loses 4 life and Darien's ability triggers. Before triggered abilities are placed on the Stack, your opponent loses the game for having 0 or less life. Then you win the game because you are the only remaining player.
