I'm thinking about making a cube and noticed a complicated interaction between some conspiracy cards that care about drafting. I did a few google searches and found some interesting information, but didn't find an answer. Here's the scenario:
I drafted Animus of Predation, removing Chromanticore from the draft. I also end up drafting Caller of the Untamed or Volatile Chimera. If I chose to not have Animus in my deck and exile it to either Caller or the Chimera, does the token or mimic still care that I exiled the Manticore with Animus?
Yes, the token created by Caller, or the Chimera made Animus, will have Animus' third ability. That ability looks at cards you removed from the draft with cards named Animus of Predation, and the fact is you did remove Chromanticore from the draft with a card named Animus of Predation.
I'm a former judge (lapsed), who keeps up to date on rules and policy. Keep in mind that judges' answers aren't necessarily more valid than those of people who aren't judges; what matters is we can quote the rules to back up our answers. When in doubt, ask for such quotes.
Draft cards such as Animus of Predation are worded very carefully to work with others with the same name and to avoid having to track information from a specific card during draft and deck building. Animus tracks cards removed from the draft due to the ability of any card named Animus, not necessarily this or that specific instance of Animus.
The token copy of Animus created by Caller of the Untamed will have the static ability, "If you removed a creature card with flying from the draft with cards named Animus of Predation, Animus of Predation has flying. The same is true for first strike, double strike, deathtouch, haste, hexproof, indestructible, lifelink, menace, reach, and vigilance". As you did remove a creature with flying, first strike, vigilance, and lifelink from the draft through "a card named Animus of Predation", the ability will give those keywords to that token. The same works with Volatile Chimera becoming a copy of Animus.
And while writing this, I noticed Animus does not include trample on its keyword list. Keep it in mind.
