Have you tried the Unstable Mechanics article (link here)? It may explain better than the FAQ.
Anyway, I'll try to keep it simple:
Your Contraption cards start the game on a separated deck, the Contraption Deck, not on your regular Library. In a Draft game, your contraption deck can include any of the Contraption cards you drafted, all of them or just some, as you wish. Contraptions also use their own Graveyard, called the Scrapyard. A Contraption card never goes to the regular graveyard or to your hand, library, exile or any other zone; if something tries to move a contraption to a zone that is not the battlefield, the contraption cards goes to the Scrapyard instead.
The back of any Contraption card looks like this:
You'll need to use the back of a contraption card you didn't put in the contraption deck, or a piece of paper where you write down the basics of this back, or something like that to track the Crank counter and the Sprockets during the game.
At the start of the game, you shuffle both your regular deck and the contraption deck, then draw cards from your regular deck as normal. Use a coin or something else to be the Crank counter, and put it on Sprocket 3. You use the cards from the contraption deck only when a some effect instructions you to "assemble a contraption".
Whenever something tells you to "assemble a contraption", you take the card on the top of the contraption deck and put it on the battlefield face-up. You must put it close to the face-down card or paper you are using to track the Crank counter, directly below one of the three Sprockets.
At the beginning of your upkeep, you move the Crank counter to the next Sprocket in the order (if it is on Sprocket 3, it goes to Sprocket 1), but only if you have at least one Contraption assembled. The abilities of all contraptions under that Sprocket trigger (but you can "skip" any of them if you want to) and go to the stack, in any order.
Look at this example.
You assembled six contraptions so far, and chose to put one on Sprocket 1, three on Sprocket 2, and two on Sprocket 3. The Crank counter is a coin, and is on Sprocket 1.
In your upkeep, you move it to Sprocket 2, and then you can use the abilities of the three Contraptions under that Sprocket.
Also, keep in mind that cards from the UNstable edition are meant to be humoristic, like those from UNglued and UNhinged. Many of those cards don't really work within the normal rules of magic.
Be aware that many players will refuse to play with you if you use these cards. It is expected your warn others that you are playing with these cards before entering a game.
