I just heard that killing a dryad militant with a burn spells causes the burn to exile because of the stack, but using doom blade to kill it doesn't exile the doom blade ? explain?
The reason this is true is because damage doesn't destroy creatures, state based actions do. State based actions do not occur however during the resolution of a spell or ability. So in the case of a burn spell it deals its damage to the dryad militant, but as I stated it's the state based action that destroys the militant, so the burn spell has to resolve completely first. At that time the dryad militant is still on the battlefield so the replacement effect is still applied and it goes to exile.
Doom Blade on the other hand has an effect that destroys the creature, that happens during the resolution of the spell. Since the last step for resolving an instant or sorcery is to put it in the graveyard, the dryad militant will already be destroyed and in the graveyard before the doom blade would be put into the graveyard. So in this case the replacement effect does not apply.
