The situation was at a casual modern weekly event at a local lgs. We had multiple people weighing in with their opinions but no judge present.
I had a jace, vryn's prodigy on board, plenty of cards in the graveyard. I tap him in order to get the draw/discard and planeswalker flip. My opponent wants to path to exile him in response to me tapping jace.
1. Some people said the draw/discard would happen but jace would be exiled (no planeswalker)
2. and some people said that the draw/discard and exile were all part of its tap ability and once he's tapped it will resolve before my opponent has priority to act
Im looking for a judge or someone with knowledge to let me know if either 1 or 2 is correct. If 2 is correct how/when would you interact with jace. I know that you can tap jace in response to a targeted removal, but does jace's tap ability trigger and go on the stack? or does it trigger and resolve without priority being passed to your opponent.
Depending on what people meant, both could be true. Yes, the draw, discard, and exile are all part of his ability so once the ability starts resolving, no player can act in the middle of it. However, this doesn't mean it resolves immediately as no activated abilities outside of mana abilities just resolve right away. It uses the stack and can be responded to like anything else.
Assuming the opponent has cast Path to Exile on him while the ability is on the stack, but before it has resolved, the Path will resolve first. Then, you will draw and discard and Jace will attempt to transform (not "flip") as he is no longer around.
Also, Jace does not "trigger". His ability is activated.

Thanks for your time and knowledge
