Might be a question already asked, but with ward sliver, slivers get protection from a color of your choice, two questions with that, can you declare colorless as a color? And probably a newbie question, but does protection work on in cards? What I mean is say you play ward sliver, and declare protection from red, then you play battle sliver, who is red, would it's effect still work?
Half-right, Elijah: Colorless is distinctly not a color (it is, after all, right there in the name), but Wastes is not a type. The card Wastes is a basic land with no type. The full text of the card is "T: Add C to your mana pool" but this is shorthanded out with a huge mana symbol like the other basics.
Here's what protection does - it stops the DEBT. A card with protection from a quality can't be damaged, blocked, enchanted or equipped, and targeted by anything that's that quality.
There is currently no way to grant 'protection from colorless' by any existing card as a note. If it was possible, though, it'd work as any other protection as detailed above.
Note, that this can't happen in the first place. Since protection forbids enchanting and equipping, any attempt to attach auras or equipment with the stated quality will fail. So Aura Graft cannot put Rancor on a pro:green creature, and likewise Magnetic Theft cannot attach a green equipment to a pro:green creature. Rancor would have to be attached to some other creature, and if there is none, it won't move. Mage Slayer simply stays were it is, since Magnetic Theft specifies the creature it will try to attach the equipment to.
Now, giving protection from green to a creature that has those permanents already attached will cause them to go to the graveyard (in the case of auras) or unattach (in the case of equipment) as SBA.
Targeted abilities would not work. However, static, untargeted abilities such as Battle Sliver will.

Take, for example, Voice of Duty, which has protection from green. Hurricane deals no damage to it despite it having flying. Rancor is put into a graveyard when attached to it by Aura Graft, and Mage Slayer becomes unattached to it when attached by Magnetic Theft. Giant Spider can't block it despite having reach. Finally, neither Plummet nor the monstrosity triggered ability of Polukranos, World Eater can target it.
