So here's my question, if I have a Necrotic Ooze on the battle field and a Elves of Deep Shadows in my graveyard what happens to the damage section of Elves of Deep Shadows? I ask because it's Necrotic Ooze that's using its (eods) ability, so does that cancel out the you receive damage portion of eods or does Necrotic Ooze take its name as well so you do take damage?
Whenever a card's text refers to itself by name, if it doesn't call out that it's referring to the name specifically (e.g. "creatures named X", "cards named X") it just means "this object." The functional effect of the second part of Elves of Deep Shadow's ability is "This creature deals 1 damage to you." Necrotic Ooze retains that part of the ability and you will be dealt damage.
Necrotic Ooze gets the entire ability. And, whenever text says the name of the card (without saying something like "cards named <something>") it really means "this object". So, in this case, Necrotic Ooze will have an activated ability that says "T: Add B to your Mana Pool. Necrotic Ooze deals 1 damage to you".
Thanks for any answers!
Also, it is Elves of Deep Shadow
