I looked at the other threads but I couldn't find the answer to this one. I have The Gitrog Monster and say Evolving Wilds in play, and my upkeep comes around. If I crack the EW, will that satisfy the Monster's requirement (the first triggered ability)? Or do I need to sac a land specifically to satisfy that ability? Seems to me the plain reading of the ability would allow the EW effect to satisfy it but that seems pretty strong. I appreciate any and all help!
No, the plain reading is that you have to sacrifice a land as a cost to keep Gitrog alive. If you sacrifice the Wilds for its own activated ability, you get to fetch a basic land, but you can't sacrifice the same object twice to pay for different costs.
No, sacrefising something to another effects does not astisfy the abilaty of the gitrog.
It would indicate that you do not have a firm grasp of the stack. The gitrog is a triggered abilaty (at the the begining ...) that goes on the stack. Then you use evolwing wilds, this is an activated abilaty since evolving wild cast "pay : effect". Here the pay is sacrefising evolving wild, and then what follows the parentis goes on the stack. If you choose to activate this abilaty while the gitrog monsters abilaty is on the stack that is fine. But when the gitrog abilaties starts to resolve you stil need to sacrefice the gitfrog unless you sacrefice a land.
Mind you gitrog has another teiggered abilaty that triggers when one or more lands go to the gravyeard, including the wilds. So you get to draw a card. And then you get another trigger if you sacrefice a land to the gitrog. And then you have your draw phase. So in this senario you are drawing 3 cards.
