I am using Rashmi, Eternities Crafter as a commander in one of my decks, and I have some questions in regards to determining CMC when resolving her ability. My understanding is the CMC is only determined by what is printed on the top right of a card, and does not include other costs such as Escalate or Strive rules.
For example, if I cast Solidarity of Heroes, and I target 2 creatures, is the CMC 4 or still 2?
Lastly, the rules for X cards listed for Rashmi, Eternities Crafter says, "For spells with Variable Colorless in their mana costs, use the value chosen for X to determine the spell’s converted mana cost. For cards in your library with Variable Colorless in their mana costs, X is considered to be 0."
So if I play a card like Green Sun's Zenith and I cast it where X is 4, is the CMC 4 because that's the value of X or is it 5 because of the forest in the mana cost?
Thanks for the help. I thought I had her rules down and then came across these examples while playing. Don't want to inadvertently cheat.
The converted mana cost is always going to be equal to the card's printed mana cost while the card's not on the stack, and any X in the mana cost is 0. X only counts toward a spell's CMC after the spell has been cast and is on the stack. Additional costs like escalate or strive costs don't count toward a card's converted mana cost, and cost increasers or reducers don't change it either. Therefore, any card you reveal with Rashmi's ability will only be castable if what's printed on the card is less than the CMC of the card you cast before her ability triggered.
Therefore, for Solidarity of Heroes, the CMC is still 2 regardless of how many creatures you target. Future Sight's CMC is still 5 even with a cost reducer out.
If you cast Green Sun's Zenith with X = 4, then its converted mana cost will be 5 as far as Rashmi's ability is concerned. However, if you revealed a Green Sun's Zenith with the ability, X would be 0 (as it always is when you cast a spell without paying its mana cost).

Correct.
For example, if I cast Solidarity of Heroes, and I target 2 creatures, is the CMC 4 or still 2?
Still 2. Only what's printed in the upper right corner of the card is relevant for determining the CMC. Additional costs are not.
Still 5. Again, only what's actually printed on the card matters. cost reductions or increases don't matter for CMC.
Lastly, the rules for X cards listed for Rashmi, Eternities Crafter says, "For spells with Variable Colorless in their mana costs, use the value chosen for X to determine the spell’s converted mana cost. The value chosen for X does factor in, but it doesn't replace the mana cost. If you choose X=4, then the mana cost of the spell is 4G, and the CMC subsequently is 5.
Awesome! Thanks you guys. So I was doing it right all along. I was playing Dual Commander with a friend and we were unsure about Strive. We got the other 2 correct though.
Thanks again.
I haven't revealed GSZ using her ability yet. Luckily I can choose to not cast it and put it in my hand
Was gonna create a new thread, but found this one while using the search engine.
What if I cast a creature for its Morph cost while Rashmi is in play? Will it consider it an 8 CMC spell? If it sees an 8CMC, then it means I somehow have to give up information on my secret morph creature in order for my opponent to actually "see" that its 8CMC, doesn't it?
EDIT: Same question with Manaplasm. Would it enters the battlefield with 3 or 8 counters?

A face-down creature spell has no mana cost, not even one of 3, which is as an alternate cost to cast the card set by the morph ability and not a characteristic of the card. The absence of a mana cost translates to a converted mana cost of 0. So Rashmi will just have you reveal the top card of your library and put it into your hand. And Manaplasm will get +0/+0 (not sure what you're taking about when you speak of entering the battlefield with counters, that's not what the card does).
