I have an Experiment One in play and I play a Satyr Grovedancer, choosing itself to get the +1/+1 counter when it comes into play. Does the Experiment One evolve from this?
Unfortunately, no. Evolve has what is called an intervening-if clause. This clause is part of the trigger condition and must be true at the time the trigger would go off or the ability doesn't trigger. It also has to be true when the trigger resolves or it does nothing. The Grovedancer's powerup from its counter comes too late to fulfil this condition, as it is itself a trigger and must resolve first to have any effect. Something like Adaptive Automaton set to one of the Grovedancer's types however would power it up in time for evolve to trigger.
