It's my understanding that the following things have to happen as a result of this interaction, assuming it's undisrupted:
1) My opponent, for a moment, will control two Gideon, Ally of Zendikar and be forced to sacrifice one of them as part of SBEs.
2) I will be able to target one Gideon, Ally of Zendikar for exile.
However, it's not clear to me whether my opponent has to decide which copy of Gideon, Ally of Zendikar gets sacrificed before or after the target of Cast Out is declared. Of course, this is the difference between one Gideon AOZ being in play and one being in the graveyard, and is thus a pretty major distinction, since it means my Felidar Guardian could potentially be an Utter End-on-a-stick, in some circumstances.
I think they have to choose first, but I'm not sure. Any ideas?
They must choose which Gideon to "save" before the trigger goes onto the stack. This is because State Based Actions (which the Planeswalker Uniqueness Rule falls into) take place immediately before a player gets priority. Then, still before players get priority, any triggers waiting to go onto the stack do so. You don't choose targets for an ability until it goes onto the stack and, in this case, your opponent will have already chosen which Planeswalker to keep before the trigger makes it to the stack and you declare your target.
I resolve Felidar Guardian, targeting Cast Out with Guardian's ETB trigger.
