My opponent controls Winding Constrictor and cast Walking Ballista. With Ballista still on the stack, I kill the snake. As far as I know, it will enter the battlefield with X counters, but a player pointed out that in Magic Online the Ballista gets the bonus even if I kill the snake (and he was extremely sure). I asked 3 different judges and they all told me it gets X, not X+1 counters.
I'm interested in another judge opinion, but I'm more interested in MOL players experience with that interaction, because I don't play online.
I believe WoTC's new policy is to make sure that every color can enjoy the exciting gameplay mechanic of making undercosted dudes and then turning them sideways. Clearly the future of magic.

This forum concerns only the behaviour of the rules of Magic as defined for its paper version by the Comprehensive Rules, the Magic Tournament Rules, and associated [O]fficial rulings.
That being said, I can scarce think of a way to reinforce what three judges have already told you on the subject. The non-interaction of cards when one of them isn't even in play is an elementary result of the basic rules. I'll pull the rule for that in a moment.
112.6. Abilities of an instant or sorcery spell usually function only while that object is on the stack. Abilities of all other objects usually function only while that object is on the battlefield. The exceptions are as follows:
The Comprehensive Rules then list 13 subrules for the exceptions, none of which applies to Winding Constrictor sitting in a graveyard.
Those judges are correct, the Ballista only enters with X counters. The Constrictor's replacement effect only kicks in when the actual placement of counters would happen, which is during the resolution of the Ballista spell when it enters the battlefield. If the Constrictor is not on the battlefield at that very moment, its abilities aren't active and the replacement effect doesn't exist so there's also no modification of the event.
112.3d Static abilities are written as statements. They’re simply true. Static abilities create
continuous effects which are active while the permanent with the ability is on the battlefield and
has the ability, or while the object with the ability is in the appropriate zone. See rule 604,
“Handling Static Abilities.”
