So, my friend has recently built The Gitrog Monster as his commander deck, and he's a bit confused on the order of operations when spells he casts would cause Gitrog's draw ability to trigger. Specifically, if Gitrog is in play and he casts Scapeshift would he have to draw before the effect of Scapeshift resolves, or draw after? Another case is Insidious Dreams . If Gitrog is on the field and he casts Dreams discarding two lands, would he draw before he tutors, or after? Thanks!
The land sacrifice with regard to Scapeshift is part of the resolution, so the draw happens after resolution. With regard to Insidious Dreams, the discard is part of the cost of the spell, so the draw trigger goes on the stack in response to the casting of the spell and the cards are drawn before resolution.
Also, to be clear, in both situations, the Gitrog player would only draw one card. In each scenario, all the lands go to the graveyard at the same time so they only trigger Gitrog once.
