If a creature has like say one +1/+1 counter in it, and a -1/-1 counter is put on it, they won't both kill each other and be gone right? There will just be both kinds on it right?
(C.R. 121.3. - If a permanent has both a +1/+1 counter and a -1/-1 counter on it, N +1/+1 and N -1/-1 counters are removed from it as a state-based action, where N is the smaller of the number of +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters on it. See rule 704)

It can be important here though that the creature needs to be alive for the counters to cancel each other , eg aYoung Wolf with a +1/+1 counter on it that receives 2 or more -1/-1 counters at once will not return due to undying because at the last point where it still was on the battlefield it still had the +1/+1 counter (it died to stated based actions for having 0 thoughness before the counters could cancel each other)
Also, this only applies to +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters. There are older cards which use different kinds of p/t modifying counters, which will not remove each other in any combination.
