My opponent controls a Plague Spitter enchanted with Spirit Link. At the beginning of his/her upkeep the Spitter's triggered ability goes on the stack. I respond with removal, either exiling or destroying the Spitter.
I know Plague Spitter's ability will still resolve and the damage will be dealt. Question is if my opponent will gain life from the Spirit Link?
No. Plague Spitter hasn't dealt damage yet and Spirit Link is no longer attached so it can't trigger. They won't gain any life.
Note that this is different than Lifelink. If something was giving it lifelink (Basilisk Collar perhaps) it will use Last Know Information for both triggers to see it had lifelink as it last existed on the battlefield.
The player won't gain life. The lifegain here comes from a triggered ability on Spirit Link, itself, and in this situation the ability doesn't exist at the time it would trigger (so it doesn't).
Note that this is different from a situation where something was specifically giving Plague Spitter the Lifelink ability (like Lifelink!). In that case the game would see the Lifelink ability in Plague Spitter's "last-known information" and apply it to the damage being dealt.
No, he won't. Spirit Link has its own triggered ability and the aura has to be on the battlefield whn the source deals damage for that trigger to go off. Since the aura is gone before damage is dealt, no life gain.
This is different from having lifelink. If the spitter had lifelink, then your opponent would still gain life as the damage is dealt, because with lifelink, the game uses last knwn information about the source if the source is gone. If that information includes the source having lifelink, then life is gained.
