I'm not saying this is wrong, I just need to know. Let me give you an example:
I am currently at 5 health and opponent attacks with a 5/5 and a 3/3. I only have one creature, so AFTER I declare my block against the 5/5 he uses a instant/sorcery to give his 3/3 +3/+0 and first strike until end of turn and I end up losing. Is this allowed? Cause this kind of sounds like BS to me.
This is allowed, as there is time before combat damage and after declaring blockers to cast instants or activate abilities. However, your opponent is not allowed to cast any sorcery at that time.
The combat phase consists of multiple steps: Beginning of Combat, Declaration of Attackers, Declaration of Blockers, Damage, End of Combat. In each of these steps, it does not continue onto the next step until both players have passed priority, meaning that there is an opportunity for either player to cast Instant spells or activate abilities. The physical actions of declaring attackers, declaring blockers, and damage being assigned and dealt, happen at the start of the step and cannot be responded to.
So yes, your opponent gets an opportunity to cast a spell like Sure Strike after blockers are declared but before damage is dealt, either to make sure your blocker dies or to deal lethal damage.
Of note, you also get the chance to respond after their spell is cast, either before or after it resolves, before damage is dealt. So you could throw out a Harnessed Lightning to kill his creature after he's committed the spell.
