There is only ever one stack, however many objects are added to and removed from it. When Torrential Gearhulk enters the battlefield, its trigger will be put on top of the stack, above whatever else is already there.
The stack is what I've heard called a LIFO data structure: Last In, First Out. Whenever a second thing happens while a first thing is already on the stack, the second thing gets added on top of the first one; since objects are resolved from the top of the stack down, the second thing resolves first.
In this case, because Torrential Gearhulk has flash, the stack will (as rigeld said) be:
Opponent casts spell. Stack: Opp. Spell
You cast Gearhulk. Stack: Opp. Spell, Gearhulk
Gearhulk resolves, ETBs, triggers. Stack: Opp. Spell, trigger.
Trigger resolves, casts Shatter. Stack: Opp. Spell, Void Shatter.
Void Shatter resolves, countering spell. Stack: <empty>
Note, by the way, that because of this, 'cast triggers' like that of Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger or Emrakul, the Promised End will resolve before the actual Eldrazi itself does. You cast the spell, putting it on the stack, and then the 'when you cast' ability triggers, putting it on the stack on top of the Eldrazi.
