I created this custom Valakut for a friend's birthday, and made sure to get the frame, cardname and set symbol correct.
It's made from a real magic card; it was pulled out the booster as a blank.
the question is. I know altered-art cards are allowed in tournaments at the head judge's behest and i've seen a good deal of leeway when it comes to this. so where would they draw the line?
i'm guessing as there's no actual printing on the card, that probably scuppers it straight away but i'd like some feedback from someone who knows what they're on about.
Generally that guidelines for alters are that the art is recognizable, the border, name, mana cost, typeline, and text are visable. So your alter fails right away. Also it may run the line of counterfeit because if I'm reading right this cards isn't a Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle.

i guess you have a point - the card was originally just a blank foil. it wasn't technically anything, except a "magic card".
fair enough. i'll stick to regular foils for tournaments then =P

Modern: G Tron, Vannifar, Jund, Druid/Vizier combo, Humans, Eldrazi Stompy (Serum Powder), Amulet, Grishoalbrand, Breach Titan, Turns, Eternal Command, As Foretold Living End, Elves, Cheerios, RUG Scapeshift
FYI, here's the quote from the MTR regarding alters.
"Artistic modifications are acceptable in sanctioned tournaments, provided that the modifications do not make the
card art unrecognizable, contain substantial strategic advice, or contain offensive images. Artistic modifications
also may not obstruct or change the mana cost or name of the card."
