I have 10 lands and Nath. I cast Death cloud for more permanents than I have lets say... 15. Do I still get the elves? Or do I need to do less than 10 so that Nath lives to get elves?

To the people that say that a card needs to be a higher rarity because of Limited... I hate you guys so much. I present to you with this.
Nath's ability triggers whenever an opponent discards a card. Especially since players discard cards, then sacrifice creatures (so not both simultaneously) (C.R. 608.2c), Nath's ability will trigger for each card discarded by an opponent even if Nath is sacrificed afterward (C.R. 603.2). And each ability that triggers this way will get to resolve even if Nath isn't on the battlefield anymore (C.R. 112.7a). (Note that it doesn't matter how many lands you control in this scenario, since Death Cloud will do as much as possible when it resolves [C.R. 101.3, 609.3], and Death Cloud itself doesn't restrict what number you can choose for X [C.R. 107.3a; see also 107.1a-c for restrictions on choosing numbers].)
Cool thank you for the well explained situation with rule numbers! I was just concerned that i needed Nath alive in order to do it. Glad to hear that isn't the case.
