My group is torn on their evaluation of this for commander.
He is worded like Banisher Priest (who I understand was worded to prevent shenanigans).
The question is this: Can you cast him and sacrifice or otherwise remove him from play (in response to his triggered ability going on to the stack) to permanently exile those creatures that dealt damage (or say, during the "Declare Blockers" step) this turn ?
Some think this works (since it's a delayed trigger that resolves all at one time) and others think that it reflects the new "fixed wording" of cards in the Banisher Priest family and isn't intended to be exploitable in this fashion.
Since it has a single ability with a duration you can't pull the same shenanigans you could with Faceless butcher and other similar cards like oblivion ring.
If Hixus leaves the battlefield before his triggered abilities resolved the creatures you targetted will remain on the battlefield.
Quote from comp rules »
611.2b Some continuous effects generated by the resolution of a spell or ability have durations worded “for as long as . . . .” If the “for as long as” duration never starts, or it ends before the moment the effect would first be applied, the effect does nothing. It doesn’t start and immediately stop again, and it doesn’t last forever.
Example: Master Thief has the ability “When Master Thief enters the battlefield, gain control of target artifact for as long as you control Master Thief.” If you lose control of Master Thief before the ability resolves, it does nothing, because its duration—as long as you control Master Thief—was over before the effect began.

Hixus's ability, like that of cards such as Banishing Light or Banisher Priest, is covered by the following rule. It's a special kind of one-shot effect, not a continuous effect.
Quote from Comp. rules »
610.3. Some one-shot effects cause an object to change zones "until" a specified event occurs. A second one-shot effect is created immediately after the specified event. This second one-shot effect returns the object to its previous zone.
610.3a If the specified event has already occurred when the initial one-shot effect would cause the object to change zones, the object doesn't move.
610.3b An object returned to the battlefield this way returns under its owner's control unless otherwise specified.
None of the above posts are discussing targeting, except tangentially due to the available examples for reference on how the rest of the ability functions.
Yesterday, on MTGO I believe I had a problem with Hixus, three times!!!
I tried casting just after first Damage, after the End of Combat and on the Second Main Phase. In all three cases the unblocking attacking creature that dealt damage to me was not exiled...
The text says "Whenever a creature deals combat damage to you, if Hixus, Prison Warden enters the battlefield this turn, exile that creature until Hixus leaves the battlefield."
By that text, I though that the effect should take place regardless of when it enters the battlefield as long as it is on the same turn!
I really believe I would have won the game if it wasn't for that...

Does any one know if it is indeed a bug?
If not, when should / could I have casted it?
Best regards,

Hixus, Prison Warden has to actually be on the battlefield when the creatures deal damage to you to be able to exile them. Otherwise, it does not "see" the creatures dealing damage in order for its ability to trigger. If you want to exile attacking creatures, your last opportunity is to cast him after blockers have been declared, but before moving to the damage step.

The trigger states that it reacts when creatures deals ombat damage to you. Therefore Hixus needs to be on the battlefield at that moment to actually trigger. Otherwise it would have been worded something along the lines of "When hixus enters the battlefield, exile all creatures that dealt combat damage to you until hixus eaves the battlefield"
