I played a game of EDH last week. Everyone seemed fine with this, but I wanted to make sure that this actually works within the rules, for my own sake.
Karador player has three creatures, one of which is Saffi. I cast Damnation. In response, he sacrifices Saffi so he can get his Elesh Norn back. Damnation resolves. Saffi's ability goes on the stack. In response, I exile his graveyard with Nihil Spellbomb. Saffi's ability resolves with no legal targets, fizzling.
I'm guessing this works, since the wording on her ability says "when," which suggests it's a triggered ability that I can respond to and not that doesn't go on the stack (such as a state-based action.) I'm hoping someone can either corroborate what I did or explain if I'm incorrect on this.
Warning issued for lack of card tags. Card tags added.

Right, triggered abilities start with "when", "whenever", or "at". As Saffi Eriksdotter's activated ability resolves it creates a delayed triggered ability.
The only thing you are incorrect about is the triggered ability does not target. Sacking Saffi to protect the in-play Elesh Norn targets but once that ability resolves the trigger that brings Elesh back does not target. It still works through Ground Seal, for example.
