Normally I think I know how deathtouch works. But I have a scenario that made me question myself
You only need to lethal damage to a creature to kill it which is 1 if that creature has deathtouch.
If there is more creatures blocking you only need 1 damage to each blocker to kill them.
If the creature has trample and deathtouch it does 1 to the blocker and the rest to the player etc.
I did not think about the actual damage assignment though
If a 4/4 deathtouch creature attacks and is blocked by a 0/2 creature does it do 4 damage to the creature or 1?
The specific creatures in the game I played was a 4/4 first strike & deathtouch soulflayer vs hornet nest
My friend believes it would only make 1 hornet whereas I think 4, my reasoning being if a 13/13 vanilla creature was blocked by hornet nest it would make 13 hornets and not stop damage assignment at lethal damage.
Who is correct?
Also if for some reason I blocked with hornet nest and another creature my opponent could assign all damage to the other creature couldn't they?
If you have a deathtouch creature that does not have trample and is only blocked by a single creature, you MUST assign all of its damage to that creature. You do not have the option to assign only one point of damage unless you have somewhere else you can assign damage to.
If they block your 4/4 with a Hornet's Nest and any other creature, you can choose to assign all four damage to the other creature, regardless of its toughness and the presence/absence of deathtouch.
