Just a quick check really; if I have a god out but not enough devotion to make it a creature yet, can I bestow an enchantment creature, such as Nighthowler onto it, thereby getting enough devotion and thus make the god a creature?
The short answer is no. When you cast Nighthowler for its bestow card it is an aura with enchant creature. You must chose a legal target as part of the casting process. Since the god is not a creature at this time it is not a legal target.
No. To cast an Aura spell (including Nighthowler when you choose to play it with Bestow), you need to choose a target to be enchanted, and the target must be valid according to the aura's Enchant ability.
A Bestow aura has "enchant creature", so its target needs to be a creature. This is checked while you are still casting it as a spell, before it even enters the battlefield. The God is not a creature yet at that point, so you can't enchant it with the Bestow.
