On cards like Izzet Charm, the choice of which ability you want to happen is done after it resolves, correct?
And on spells like voyage's end, do you select the target before it resolves or after?
Ive had a question about those choices for a while and wasn't exactly sure when they are chosen
They are chosen on casting long before it resolves. When you cast the spell you must select the mode of a spell if it is like izzet charm and a legal target if it requires one.
Choices that you need to make while you're casting the spell:
* Modes, like Izzet Charm and anything else with "choose one - " and similar wordings.
* To splice another card into it, as in Glacial Ray's Splice Onto Arcane
* Anything that affects the spell's total cost - alternative costs, additional costs, how you plan to pay for hybrid/phyrexian mana mana, the value of X, etc, because you are also going to pay the cost during the casting of the spell.
* All the spell's targets.
* How you will "divide" or "distribute" something (like damage from Arc Lightning or counters from Blessings of Nature) among the targets.
Any other choices are done on resolution.
