Hey everyone, I have a question about if Storm Cauldron and Mana Web combo together. I'm just not sure, because Storm Cauldorn says "Whenever a land is tapped for mana, return it to its owner's hand." so basically I'm wondering if the forced tap down of lands from Mana Web counts as tapping for mana, or if its considered something else.
No, tapping for mana would be activating the mana ability of the land. The controller of the lands could tap them for mana in response to the Mana Web trigger (in which case Storm Cauldron would return them to their owner's hand), or they could just let them be tapped by Mana Web (in which case they don't get mana but the lands stay on the battlefield).
Mana Web isnt forcing them to tap their lands for mana, or in other words, "activate a mana ability of a land they contol". Mana Web simply has a triggered ability that, when it resolves, will force them to tap a particular set of permanents (that so happen to be lands). This does stop that opponent from working around the Mana Web by floating the mana in response to the trigger though.
Thanks for the quick answers, I was really hoping that those two would combo together and bounce all lands back to hands. However I can still see how it could be fun to have both out on the field at the same time.
