Celestial Dawn. The rules section says: "You may use a different color mana than the color required for spells and abilities that require a specific color. If you do, and the spell or ability checks the actual color of the mana, it can tell the difference."
I am not clear on the last part. How does the spell or ability your paying for "check"? It also says that it can tell the difference. Does that mean that if it checks and the color used is wrong you won't be able to cast the spell or use the ability?
This ruling is notably for cards like Firespout. While you may pay white mana as it was red or green mana to pay for the hybrid mana symbol, Firespout will have no effect, because the game knows you didn't actually pay red or green mana to cast it. That's unless you paid actual red and/or green mana for the generic part of the cost, which Celestial Dawn allows you to do, provided that you could produce that mana while your lands are plains (it could come from a nonland mana source). It works both ways: although you can spend green or red mana only as if it was colorless because of the Dawn, you can use it on the generic part of the cost and the game knows it was red or green and Firespout will have the appropriate effect.

If a spell or ability required a specific color of mana for it, it keeps track of the actual mana spent to play. It means that something like Firespout would only see that you spend White mana on it, and wouldn't gain any effects.

Everyone knows that good luck and good game are such insincere terms that any man who does not connect his right hook with the offender's jaw on the very utterance of such a phrase is no man I would consider as such.
If you do not have any plains, all your lands tap for colorless.
Celestial Dawn makes all your lands plains, so that's unlikely you will have lands while not having any plains... But it could happen if, for example, all your lands are nonbasic and Blood Moon enters the battlefield after Celestial Dawn. But even then, your lands (mountains) still produce red mana, it's just that that mana can only be spent as if it was colorless, i.e. on generic mana costs.

So for this example, lets just say I have just plains down on my side, plus celestial dawn.
Your saying that I could cast Firespout for two colorless, a plains tapping to produce green mana OR a plains tapping to produce red mana. This would then trigger one of Firespout's abilities but not both.
You could tap the land to produce white mana. That is all. You can spend that mana AS IF it were green mana, or AS IF it were red mana. So, you can still cast the spell. But, when the spell looks to see if green or red mana was spent, all it sees is that white mana was spent AS IF it were green or red mana, so no actual green or red mana was spent, so no extra effects.

"Firespout will have no effect". Even though the mana fits the requirements to cast the spell, it's still white mana.

Ahhhhh I get it!. However cards such as Aerie Mystics, I could spend the white mana AS IF it were blue or green to get the effect to trigger correct?
Basically, you can spend white mana to pay any mana costs. So yes, you can spend 3 white mana to activate (not trigger, that's another kind of ability) the ability of Aerie Mystics.

I thought if I donated this card to a player who doesn't use white mana in EDH via Zedruu the Greathearted, they would only be able to produce colorless mana.
That's a combination of two effects. Celestial Dawn makes all their lands Plains, so they can only produce white mana. If their Commander's color identity doesn't include white, then any white mana they would produce from those Plains is turned into colourless mana. If their Commander is white, then they can use that mana to it's full extent.

With Celestial Dawn on the battlefield, you can use White mana as though it was any color, so you can activate that ability with just white mana.
