Nicol Bolas is a pretty nice character with a fairly rich story , which is very poorly shown in actual cards.
The actual motivations are not clear for the normi player, and the fact that nobody in the gate watch is dead just strengthens the impression that Nicol Bolas simply does not reflect the omnipotent evil being hes supposed to be ; sure Amonkhet got wrecked, but its not like they really struggled, they where mend to be harvested to begin with.
----
In the past Bolas did not intervene directly and just threatens and manipulates almost any story in the history of Magic, its just not as blatantly obvious.
A being that can age like that does not need to hasten or act rashly, its all planned out and failure is pretty much impossible from that point on.
So you would have to assume, the moment Bolas actually does something its all well planned out and should not fail, otherwise he wouldnt act to begin with, simply no reason to risk anything.
A being as strong as Bolas can just jump from world to world an enslave entire galaxies, there is simply nothing that can stand in his way, and if there is, well, ignore it, blow the planet up and let them die in their misery.
As a super villain like that, WotC cannot really play him out well enough in a story that so directly involves his character and they stick to a story too tight.
I would personally like it way more if they would jump from different characters and different worlds and story arcs instead of strickly following a single one (as they did in the past).
WotC wants to build their "planeswalker" franchise , so we are pretty much doomed for this kind of stories to continue.
The sad part is, when they just throw bolas away as a villain, there simply isnt any reasonable force left , you absolutely need powerful villains and stick around, otherwise you get a throw-away villain over and over again.
Yawgmoth has been a villain for years before being defeated permanently, did not get sick of him. Bolas is the same.. they probably intend to keep him around for a little longer, I have no problem with that.
And I heard there was supposed to be a plan to trap Bolas in Ixalan using Immortal Sun. What happened with that plan?
I'm sick of the neowalkers a lot more than I am of Bolas. I think Bolas should kill a couple of them. Kill Domri, Dovin, Huatli, Samut, Tibalt, the other less iconic ones. Heck, why not kill Gideon too. Yawgmoth felt a lot more threatening and evil than some dragon with attitude. Back in the good old days, black was Satanic. The game felt a lot more serious. It's degenerated into a comic book.
They want to be marvel so hard that there are probably restraining orders involved.
And yeah I want more evil walkers running around along with more new walkers in general, that way you can take the Game of Thrones approach and just kill them at the drop of a hat. If the neo walkers are so much weaker than the old walkers then have the mana stones to show it by killing them at the same rate of this little piggy. Walkers should have never really become the focal point of the stories in the first place, get back to the actual worlds and have the walkers doing this nonsense in the background please.
