I am thinking about drafting Unstable when it comes out in December. Me and my friends would probably do a couple drafts, and then sleeve all the cards and make a draft cube out of the set. (Sleeving because of terrible card quality and because sleeves are pretty neat.) I'm planning on going to my local game shop and trading in a lot of old expensive Pokemon cards I have from years of collecting. I am looking for ideas, opinions, or anything I could do different or better. Thanks.
One drafting variant some of my friends and i use is to crack all the packs, then separate by rarity, then randomize (shuffle) each rarity separately, then separate each rarity into a number of piles equal to the number of people drafting. Then each person starts off with one stack of rares (and mythics) and passes left, etc; then each player gets a stack of uncommons and passes right; then the commons get split into two stacks for each player - one to pass right and one to pass left. Usually if there's extra cards we just leave them undrafted but sometimes we randomize who gets what.
It takes away from some of the element of surprise, but it also helps avoid people getting screwed by drafting for deck-building as opposed to drafting for rare-hoarding. It's definitely not for everybody, and will obviously only work for non-competitive play, but it's something different if that's what you're looking for.

They just couldn't put 7th edition into Modern because of the card borders? Seriously? Count me out.

I'll let you know if/when i go back to Standard. I hate pulling cards i can't use.
putting them into a reuseable draft cube is a great idea though.
Selling some cards I don't want.
Generally less than tcg mid.
