Sorry but I'm a bit inexperienced in all the MTG finance stuff that goes on, I just opened a foil Mana Crypt from a casual pack of Eternal Masters, should I sell it now (I looked and it was like $190 TCG Mid) or wait for it's value to go up after Eternal Masters becomes rarer. Also (cuz I was curious) why are foils for force of wills like $500 dollars when Mana crypts are $190,even thouh they dont have that much difference in normal non-foil prices.
If you're getting into the financial aspect of Magic please understand that you are entering dangerous territory. A foil Mana Crypt has a selling value of $190 but no store or retailer is going to buy it from you for anywhere near that price point. If you even made a hundred dollars off of it I would be shocked. The economics of buy/sell as they apply to MtG are whimsical and often insane, the sell value of a card in no way represents the buy value.
If you need a few extra bucks and have no interest in Mana Crypt (which is a very good card) then I'd say sure, go ahead and make a little money to buy the cards you actually want. Otherwise I would keep it. There may come a day when the buy value of the card is high enough to justify selling it, but otherwise I personally wouldn't worry about it. Keep it double sleeved and take care of it, you can put it into any deck that needs the mana acceleration. Or you could tuck it away in a binder under two more layers of protection.
Me? I'd play it in an EDH deck for sure. The massive mana accel for literally zero cost is insane. Anyone who has a Mana Crypt and actively plays EDH should run one every time. The card is that good.
Force of Will is a 4x in competitive Legacy, and shows up in many EDH decks playing blue as well. It's also sought after by what remains of the vintage community, so there's a tremendous demand on the card. Mana Crypt is not legal in Legacy or any other formats except EDH and Vintage (where's it's restricted to a 1x). As a result there's MUCH less demand for it. There's a logic and a reason to it, but it's not always easy to spot, particularly to inexperienced players. You should expect to get 50% of the price from a vendor for it in cash. My LGS was offering $80 for example and this is probably typical. You can expect TCG low pricing if you sell it online to an individual. Maybe a little better since it's a hot card. Or you can trade it for something else or lots of something elses equal to its full value. If it were me, I might try and trade it for a non-foil and some other cards if I play Magic casually and just happened to get lucky with this pack.
